The Bossier City-based Louisiana Thunder won the 13-and-under USSSA baseball state tournament Sunday in Lake Charles.
The Thunder won four games in the 17-team bracket, including a 10-2 victory over Northshore Academy Prospects-Orange in the championship game.
Garrett Hable went 2-for-2 with a triple, double and three RBIs to lead the Thunder in the title game. Sam Simmons went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Silas Ardoin also had an RBI. Elm Grove’s Amani Larry pitched all five innings, allowing five hits.
The Thunder defeated the La. Sox 8-0 in the first round, the West Monroe Sox 4-1 in the quarterfinals and the Hammond Yankees 10-0 in the semifinals.
Cole Horton went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double against the La. Sox. Larry went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Hable had a hit and drove in two runs.
Nick Heckman had a double. Harrison Tauzin had an RBI single. Ardoin and Christion Raynor also had singles. Raynor and Ardoin combined on a two-hitter.
Caleb Reese had a double against West Monroe. Larry and Hable each had one hit and one RBI. Horton had a single, and Tauzin had an RBI.
Heckman allowed two hits and struck out three in five innings. Simmons pitched the final inning for the save.
Simmons went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in the semifinal win over Hammond. Larry went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Eric Brown had an RBI double. Heckman also had a double. Horton and Reese had one single and one RBI each. Ardoin had an RBI.
Ardoin and Turner Toms combined on a one-hitter.
The Thunder improved to 20-2-1 on the season.
