BOSSIER CITY – Barbara A. Nickler Robinson, 93, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Grace Home Hospice in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Barbara was born April 27, 1920, in Goshen, Indiana, to Forrest and Naomi Nickler. She graduated from nursing school and worked as a Registered Nurse. After nursing, she obtained her realtor’s license and worked for Beckett Realty in Bossier City.

She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. While raising her children and placing her career on hold, she was a Brownie Troop leader and a Cub Scout Pack leader. During her life she volunteered for the Red Cross, teaching new mother’s classes. After resuming her nursing career, she helped advocate for more respect and more pay for the nursing profession.

She was an active member of the Air Force Officers’ Wives’ Club, serving as the president at Bunker Hill AFB in Indiana and as a member at Andersen AFB in Guam. She was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church in Bossier City.

Barbara married Edward Lee Robinson March 31, 1945, at the Lowry Air Force Base chapel in Colorado. Due to his military career, they lived in Florida, California, England, Indiana, and Guam. They were last stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, and Lt. Col. Edward and Barbara retired in Bossier City. Her husband preceded in her in death in 2003.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn “Kay” Cloutman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons, Edward Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth “Liz,” of Anacortes, Washington, and Forrest “Nick” Robinson and his wife, Ailene, of Alexandria, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Michael Cloutman and his wife, Julie, of Taos, New Mexico, Chad Cloutman of Dallas, Texas, Lisa Wheeler and her husband, Steve, of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, Elizabeth Robinson of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Leileah Petty and her husband, Jeremy, of McKinney, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren, Ashley, Coral, Anna, Cayla, Lauren, and Brady Cloutman, and Breana, Ethan Allen, and Alyssa Wheeler. The family thanks caregiver Connie Neal for the excellent love and care she gave their mother during the last three years of her life.

Barbara has donated her body to the Louisiana State University Medical School at Shreveport. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 10:30 am, at Glenview Gardens, 4828 Medical Drive in Bossier City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Fellowship United Methodist Church, 4750 Barksdale Blvd., Bossier City, LA 71112.
