HAUGHTON – Barbara Frances Smith, age 84, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22nd, 2014. Barbara was born April 15th, 1930 on the Santee Sioux Reservation in Knox County Nebraska and was a lifelong member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.
She was a secretary most of her life and retired from The Shreveport Times in 2003, after working in the Classified Department and later the reception desk for over ten years. Barbara had an amazing sense of humor and an extraordinary talent for trying something new and being great at it. These included bowling, darts, organ playing and oil painting. She was also a gentle and loving grandparent and great-grand parent, and a loving and over-protective mother.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Eugene Rouillard and Mary Louise Rencontre Rouillard; brothers, Harold Rouillard and Orville Rouillard; and sister Lou Runnels. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of forty-eight years, Albert Shadrach Smith; son, Gregory Ross; daughters, Terri Ward and Traci Smith; grandchildren, Elizabeth Holland, Candice Ross, Alec Ross, Travis Grigsby, Victoria Ward and Trenton Ward; and great-grandchildren, Lucy and Reed Holland.
Services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends for open visitation between 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
She was very much loved and will be greatly missed and we know she will be living it up in Heaven.
