The Airline Vikings, Haughton Bucs and Benton Tigers picked up district baseball victories Thursday.
In District 1-5A, Airline edged Southwood 3-2 and Haughton slipped past Captain Shreve 2-1 in eight innings. Also, Parkway fell to Byrd 5-1.
In District 1-4A, Benton pounded Huntington 22-0. The Tigers visit Minden Saturday at 1 p.m. in a showdown for the district lead.
At Southwood, Airline pushed across a run in the top of the fourth for the 3-2 lead and made it stand up.
Cameron Taylor went 2-for-4 for the Vikings (11-13, 4-3). Peyton Davis and Jarrett Bamburg had one RBI each.
Chad Poulson, who allowed two hits in four innings, got the win.
Game 2 of the three-game series is 6 tonight at Airline. Game 3 is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southwood.
At Haughton, Hunter Golden’s single scored Will Turner with the winning run in the eighth inning.
Turner led off the inning with a single and advanced to second when Seth Ryan drew a walk.
Bradley Bockhaus pitched seven strong innings, allowing just four hits. John Tomb pitched the eighth for the win.
Golden had two of the Bucs’ six hits. Haughton improved to 12-13 overall and 4-3 in district.
At Parkway, Carson Vaughn allowed just five hits in six innings but six walks and four errors helped do the Panthers in.
Parkway (13-12, 5-2) also had only four hits, including a double by Kyle Laverdiere.
At Huntington, Benton (17-8, 5-1) made quick work of the Raiders, scoring nine in the first two innings and four in the third.
Aaron Sheppard didn’t allow a hit and struck out six in three innings. A dozen Tigers had hits.
Austin Beck, Tanner Craft, Jordan Shaffer and Josh Scherer all had two.
Also on Thursday, Bossier dropped a District 1-3A doubleheader to Evangel 15-0 and 14-0.
Benton pounded out 13 hits, including three home runs, in a 13-0, five-inning 1-4A victory over North DeSoto in Stonewall.
Jaret Gill had two hits, including a grand slam home run, and five RBIs. Cameron Horton went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Wade Grubbs had three hits, and Taylor Ward had two. Branson Woodward blasted a two-run homer. Josh Scherer had a double and three RBIs.
Benton starter Jordan Shaffer allowed just two hits in four innings and struck out five. He also had a double.
At Minden Tuesday, Taylor went 3-for-3 as Airline defeated the Crimson Tide 13-3 in a non-district game that went five innings.
Will Goodwin went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Davis, Adam Armstrong and Jacob James all had doubles.
Aaron Lowe allowed just three hits.
