Baseball: BPCC swept by NE Texas Community College

Northeast Texas Community College swept a Region XIV doubleheader from Bossier Parish Community College Monday, defeating the Cavs 7-4 and 12-8 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

The Cavs also lost to NE Texas in the first game of the series 8-5 in 10 innings last Wednesday. The game went into extra innings tied at 3. BPCC scored two in the top of the 10th, but NE Texas came back with three in the bottom of the inning to win it.

Matt Hammock had a homer, two doubles and two RBI to lead the Cavs. Francisco Rodriguez also had three hits.

Rodriguez went 2-for-4 in the 7-4 loss. Former Benton star Andrew Cole had a double. Starter Doc Wilkerson allowed 11 hits and struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings of the seven-inning game.

Cole went 2-for-3 in the 12-6 loss. Hammock had a two-RBI double. Spencer Goodwin also had double.

BPCC (16-27-1) begins a three-game conference series against Paris Junior College at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at home. The teams are scheduled to face off in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday in Paris, Texas.
