The Bossier City Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across Louisiana and the nation next week in participating the seatbelt enforcement campaign “Click It or Ticket” sponsored by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
During the campaign, which runs through the Thanksgiving holiday, Bossier City officers will step up seatbelt and child safety restraint enforcement in an effort to increase seatbelt usage and save lives.
According to the LHSC, seatbelt use has increased considerably in Louisiana over the past two consecutive years and stood at 85.9% in 2015. While not all motor vehicle crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease one’s chance of dying or being severely injured in a crash.
“Click It or Ticket” will run until Sunday, November 29. The Bossier City Police Department’s participation in the initiative is funded with federal grant money distributed through the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
