Benton All-Stars win Dixie 9-year-old state title

The Benton All-Stars won the Dixie Youth 9-year-old state championship last week at ULM.

Benton went 4-0 in the tournament, defeating Sabine 5-3, East Ouachita-South 11-8, East Ouachita-North 9-4 and West Monroe 13-0. The championship earned Benton a spot in the 9-year-old World Series July 23-26 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Members of the state championship team are Bryson Pierce, Daniel Jayroe, Cason Toms, Colton Lasiter, Peyton Fulghum, Parker Fulghum, Andrew Wainscott, Cody Wilhite, Hudson Brignac, Caden Lee, Ryder Rutledge and Ryan Liles. Coaches are Hal Fulghum, Joey Windham and Jeff Liles.

Pierce pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight in the victory over West Monroe, according to the stats on the team’s GameChanger site. Wilhite had two hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Parker Fulghum also had two hits. Pierce, Wainscott and Rutledge all had hits. Lasiter had four RBI.

Parker Fulghum, Toms and Pierce all had two hits against East Ouachita-North. One of Toms’ was a triple. Liles, Peyton Fulghum, Jayroe, Wainscott and Rutledge all had hits. Jayroe, who pitched four innings, and Lasiter combined for the victory.

Pierce, Peyton Fulghum and Wilhite all had two hits against East Ouachita-South. Parker Fulghum, Lasiter, Jayroe and Lee also had hits. Brignac, Lasiter and Jayroe combined on the mound.

Pierce pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Sabine. Parker Fulghum went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Liles, Toms and Wainscott also had hits.
