The Benton boys and girls both finished runner-up in the Region I-4A track and field meet Wednesday at Benton High.
Benton scored 87 points in the boys division. West Ouachita won with 98 1/3.
The Benton girls also scored 87. DeRidder won with 100.
Benton’s Dorsavion Williams swept the boys sprints, winning the 100 in 10.90 and the 200 in 22.19.
Drake Heinz was also a double winner, taking the 1,600 in 4:37.83 and the 3,200 in 10:13.18.
Heinz edged teammate Stephen Singleton in the 3,200 by less than a second.
Benton’s Collin Milton won the javelin with a toss of 154-0.
The top three individuals and relay teams qualified for next week’s LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at LSU.
Ryder Miller, who finished third in the 800, was the only other Benton athlete who qualified in the boys division.
Benton’s Brittany Black finished second in the girls 100 and 200 with times of 12.62 and 26.35, respectively.
Black also ran on Benton’s winning 4X100 team along with Jill Anderson, Shelby Plunkett and Mikayla Dillard. Their time was 49.81. Benton also finished second in the 4X200 in 1:45.54. Ja’Erica Carr is a member of the 4X200 team.
Benton’s Madi Sessions will get to finish her high school career at the state meet after winning the discus with a toss of 103.
Quinci Middlebrooks (third, 1,600), Rachel Paine (third, 3,200) and Shelby Leninger (third, pole vault) all qualified for the state meet.
