Benton sophomore-to-be Hayden White is tied for 15th after the first round of the American Junior Golf Association’s David Toms Foundation Shreveport Junior tournament at Southern Trace Country Club.
White shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday. Tommy Boone of Plano, Texas, leads with a 69, one stroke better than Michael Anthony Rome of Austin, Texas.
Jack Gnam of Ridgeland, Miss., Nicholas Duggan of San Antonio and Simms Abney of Madison, Miss., are tied for third at 72.
White played the front nine in 2 over with three bogeys and one birdie. He started the back nine with four straight bogeys but finished strong. White made an eagle 3 on the par-5 14th and birdied the par-5 18th.
The low players from Louisiana are Marshall Laborde of Shreveport and Nolan Lambert of Gretna, tied for eighth at 74.
Halley Jones of Dallas shot a 70 and leads the girls division by three strokes. Katie Yoo of Windermere, Fla., is second.
The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to conclude Thursday.
Fifty-six boys and 21 girls are competing in the event, named after the foundation of PGA Tour pro and former Airline star David Toms.

The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls, ages 12-18) of nearly 6,500 members from 49 states and more than 50 foreign countries.”
AJGA alumni include Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer.
