The Bossier All-Stars begin play in the Little League Softball (11-12) Southwest Regional Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against the Malvern (Ark.) All-Stars in Waco, Texas.
Bossier is one of six teams representing five states in the double-elimination tournament being played at the George W. Bush Little League Leadership Training Center and Southwest Regional Complex.
The tournament runs through Wednesday. The championship game will be televised on the Longhorn Network. The winner advances to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore., Aug. 7-13.
Other teams competing are Rawlings (Pueblo, Colo.), Silver City (Silver City, N.M.), Bryan Harvey (Bryan, Texas) and Robinson (Robinson, Texas).
The Bossier Little League qualified a team for the second straight year.
Members of the team include Brooklyn Brandon (Cope), Makenzie Chaffin (Benton Middle), Caroline Easom (Greenacres), Madison Ennis (Greenacres), Kourtnee White (Greenacres), Lexi Gray (Benton Middle), Raelin Chaffin (Benton Middle), Reagan Jorstad (Cope), Jessie Baffuto (Greenacres), Regan Thompson (Evangel), Em Murray (Southfield) and Hannah Borah (Haughton).
The Bossier Little League is holding a fundraiser Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Texas Silver Star Smokehouse — The Stage restaurant in Bossier City.
Team members will be announced on stage and sign baseballs and softballs for cash donations to help defray travel costs.
Calvary baseball coach Todd Walker, a former Airline, LSU and Major League Baseball star, will be the guest speaker.
The event will be combined with a “Meet the Candidates” event which will allow local political candidates to introduce themselves on stage and have a chance to meet the players and their parents, family and friends, as well as other interested attendees. The event is open to the public.
