Bossier Schools has received 10 applications for the Bossier Parish School Board Superintendent position.
The district is seeking a replacement for current Superintendent D.C. Machen, who will retire at the end of the school year. Applicants include David Thrash, Gisele Proby-Bryant, Jason Rowland, Leland Hand, Alonzo “Lonnie” Ray Luce, Mark Torbert, Dr. Nichole Bourgeois, Wendell Scott Smith, Sherri Pool and Victoria Bridges Miles.
David Thrash is currently the principal at Bossier High School in Bossier City. Thrash was named Bossier Parish Principal of the Year in 2010 and Louisiana State Principal of the Year in 2011.
Gisele Proby-Bryant currently serves as the Director of Special Education for Bossier Parish Schools. Bryant was also principal of T.O. Rusheon Middle School in Bossier City from June 2000 to June 2008.
Jason Rowland is currently the principal of Airline High School in Bossier City. Rowland was also assistant principal at Benton High School and Airline High School between 2001 and 2010.
Leland Hand is currently the Superintendent of Cross Roads Independent School District (Class AA) in Malakoff, TX. Hand was also Assistant Superintendent at Warren Independent School District (Class AAAA) in Warren, TX from 2004 to 2006.
Alonzo “Lonnie” Ray Luce is currently the superintendent of St. James Parish Schools in Lutcher, LA. Luce was also the deputy superintendent of Greenville County Schools in Greenville, SC.
Mark Torbert is currently serves as a principal in Terrebonne Parish. Torbert’s background includes serving eight years in the Louisiana Army National Guard.
Dr. Nichole Bourgeois is currently the principal of Parkway High School in Bossier City. Bourgeois was previously the assistant principal at Parkway and a teacher at Airline High School.
Wendell Scott Smith is the acting Assistant Superintendent of Bossier Parish Schools. Smith was also principal and assistant principal at Benton Middle/High School in Benton, LA.
Sherri Pool currently serves as the Supervisor of Programs of Professional Evaluation (COMPASS) and District Person for Bossier Parish Schools. Pool was the principal at Curtis Elementary in Bossier City from July 2005 to June 2014.
Victoria Bridges Miles served as the Director of Federal programs for the Keller Independent School District in Keller, TX from 2014-2015. Miles was also a principal in Keller ISD and principal in the North Kansas City School District in Kansas City, MO.
The Superintendent Search Committee will decide at this Thursday’s Bossier Parish School Board meeting the schedule they will follow for interviews the week of April 25-29, which will be held in an open forum. The BPSB meeting will be held at 6 p.m. April 21 at the Bossier Instructional Center, which is located at 2719 Airline Drive.
There will also be an opportunity for the public to submit questions for all Superintendent candidates, not specific applicants. Further communication regarding that process is forthcoming.
