The two Bossier City All-Star teams in the Dixie World Series baseball tournaments stayed undefeated with victories over Arkansas teams Sunday at Tinsley Park.
Bossier rallied from an early 6-2 deficit to defeat Sevier County 11-6 in the Boys (14s) tournament. In the Jr. Boys (13s) division, Bossier scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 20-3, four-inning victory over Searcy.
Both games ended after midnight because of an evening rain delay that lasted about two and a half hours.
Both Bossier teams improved to 2-0 and play again Monday night at 8. The Bossier 14s face the winner of a 1 p.m. game between Hattiesburg, Miss., and Hilton Head, S.C. The Bossier 13s play the winner of a 1 p.m. game between Dothan, Ala., and Jefferson Parish, La,
The winner of the 8 p.m. games will be the only undefeated teams left in their respective tournaments.
The Bossier 14s trailed 6-2 after Sevier scored five in the top of the third. But Bossier scored one in the third and then put up four in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. Bossier left the bases loaded but it didn’t matter as they added two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Bossier’s Cody Norris went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jonathan Brandon also went 3-for-4. Steven Lutterman had a double.
Eric Williams had two hits, including a double, and five RBIs. Chase Hodges, David Mazey and Jay Couch had two hits apiece.
Couch started on the mound and went 4 2/3 innings, striking out five. Hodges struck out five and didn’t allow a hit in 2 2/3 innings for the save.
Jathon Patton ended the Bossier 13s game against Searcy with the grand slam in the fourth. Bossier scored 12 runs in the inning. Patton went 4-for-4 with two doubles and seven RBIs.
Cole Horton went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Nick Heckman had a single and two RBIs. Amani Larry had a single. Garrett Hable, Caleb Reese and Christion Rayner all had one RBI.
Bossier, which has 10 players from the Louisiana Thunder USSSA 13s championship team and several from last year’s 11-12 Little League state championship team, has outscored it’s first two opponents 38-3.
In Boys’ Division elimination games Sunday, Dallas, N.C., defeated Dyersburg, Tenn., 15-0, Monroe, La., downed Troup,, Ga., 9-5, and Center, Texas, beat Spanish Fort, Ala., 7-3. In other winners’ bracket games, Hilton Head defeated Halifax Count, Va., 14-2, and Hattiesburg, Miss., knocked off Spring Hill, Fla., 15-3.
In elimination games Monday, Spring Hill plays Halifax County at 10 a.m., Monroe faces Center at 10 a.m. and Dallas takes on Sevier County at 1 p.m.
In Jr. Boys’ elimination games Sunday, Sumter, S.C., defeated Pittsburg, Texas, 17-10, Purvis, Miss., dropped West, Ga., 15-8 and Lewis County, Tenn., downed West Volusia, Fla., 15-5.
In the other winners’ bracket games, Dothan defeated Halifax County, 15-5 and Jefferson Parish edged Columbus County, N.C., 3-1.
In elimination games Monday, Columbus County faces Halifax County at 10 a.m., Lewis County plays Purvis at 10 a.m., and Sumter takes on Searcy at 1 p.m.
