The Elm Grove Eagles swept the Jets in their football season openers Thursday, winning the seventh-grade game 20-14 and the eighth-grade game 30-0.
The Jets are made up of players from Shreveport schools St. Mark’s and St. Joseph’s.
Samorii Dooley scored two touchdowns for the Eagles seventh-grade squad on runs of 17 and 3 yards. He also caught a conversion pass from Drake Fontenot. Dooley finished with 90 yards on eight carries.
Peyton Lewis scored Elm Grove’s other touchdown on a 15-yard run. Lewis rushed for 95 yards on seven carries.
Fontenot completed four of five passes for 42 yards. Gnoble Peterson had two catches for 29 yards.
Elm Grove coaches said Sonny Reed and Garrett Smith were standouts on the offensive line. They also cited Adam Johnson and Garrett Miller for their defensive play.
The Elm Grove starters played only for a half in the eighth-grade game.
Amani Larry tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Papason and also ran for two conversions. Larry completed six of nine passes for 105 yards.
Alija Barnett scored Elm Grove’s first TD on a 3-yard run. Zeke McKnighr ran 70 yards for a TD and finished with 93 yards on just two carries.
Kentravious Morris caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Reese and followed that with the conversion run.
Alec Crain had three catches for 35 yards, and Barnett had two for 50.
Elm Grove coaches said Miguel Espino and Connor Cloinger were standouts on the offensive line and Reese and Brandon Nelson were standouts on defense.
