Benton’s Garrett Jacobs is moving on to the next round of ‘American Idol.’
Jacobs hit the stage Monday night with Colbie Caillat for their Top 24 All-Star Duets performance in front of a live audience and celebrity judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. The duo sang a cover of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat.
The judges were impressed with Jacob’s performance Monday night, securing him a spot in the Top 14. Luke Bryan said Monday night’s duet was “a great step in the right direction” for Jacobs.
Caillat said Jacobs “is a natural.”
“He did so good,” she said, responding to host Ryan Seacrest. “He’s such a great performer, such a sweet soul, such a sweetheart. He’s just so great. That was a great duet.”
Seacrest asked Jacobs if there was anyone he was thinking about while performing the song. He said he was singing it for his girlfriend, Brittany.
Little did he know, she was in the audience and surprised him following the judges‘ remarks. The two then embraced on stage.
Jacobs covered Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better” Sunday night during the solo round.
Contestants will compete for a spot in the Top 10 next week, relying on America’s vote to get them through to the next round of competition.
