BOSSIER CITY – Helen Louise Park Persons, 90, was born July 18, 1923 in Conway, AR, the only child of Edwin Arthur Park and Mary Percival Park. She grew up there and graduated from Conway High School, then attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, where she was a member of the Zeta Sigma Sorority. She married John P. Persons on January 25, 1943. Helen passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Pilgrim Manor Guest Care in Bossier City, LA, following a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Thompson. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery.
During her lifetime, Helen was active in supporting her husband in his military career with the U.S. Air Force, residing in Austria at the start of the Berlin Airlift, followed by a tour at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE. Later there would be two separate tours at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA and then a tour at Zaragoza Air Base in Spain. She was active in the Officer Wives Clubs and volunteered as a Gray Lady at the various base hospitals during their tours. Helen and John made their home again in Bossier City upon his retirement in 1966. She was an active member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Bossier City for a number of years before her illness.
After her husband’s retirement in 1975, Helen earned her Practical Nursing Degree and worked at Doctors Hospital for 10 years before she retired. After her retirement from Doctors Hospital, she enjoyed arts and crafts in her spare time. She took classes and became a wonderful painter, sharing her beautiful artwork with her sons and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband of 52 years, Lt. Col. John P. Persons and great grandson, Cryton Paul Persons. She is survived by sons, John L. Persons and wife Elizabeth of Natchitoches, LA, Charles P. Persons and wife Julie of Folsom, CA, David E. Persons and wife Linda of Atlanta, TX; grandchildren John S. Persons, wife Denise and their children, Hayes Fejer and husband Alex, Garrett Persons and Slater Persons; Kelly Persons Button, husband Chris and their children, Sydney and Addison; Charles W. Persons, wife Jaime and their children, Charlotte and Samantha; Gillian Persons Marx, husband James and their children Jacob and Annabelle; Ciara Persons and Laura Persons.
