At the half of Friday’s night District 1-1A road game against the Haynesville Golden Tornado, the Plain Dealing Lions were still within striking distance.
Haynesville, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 1A and a perennial powerhouse, led just 19-8. But the Tors pulled away in the second half for a 40-8 win.
Plain Dealing dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district. The Lions visit Lincoln Prep (1-4), a 32-0 loser to D’Arbonne Woods, this Friday. Haynesville improved to 5-0 and 2-0.
After the Tors built a 19-0 lead, the Lions scored their lone touchdown on a 9-yard pass from Matt Sullivan to Keldrick Carper. Carper also scored the two-point conversion.
Haynesville piled up 303 yards rushing to Plain Dealing’s 81, according to The (Shreveport) Times. The Tors scored on several big plays.
The Lions hurt themselves with 11 penalties for 117 yards.
