The Airline Lady Vikings clinched a share of the District 1-5A softball championship with an 8-2 victory over the Parkway Lady Panthers on Thursday at Parkway.
In the other District 1-5A games, the Haughton Lady Bucs rocked Southwood 18-7 at Southwood and Evangel Christian routed Captain Shreve 13-1.
In a non-district game, the Benton Lady Tigers downed North Webster 2-0 in Springhill.
Airline improved to 20-7 overall and completed district play 11-1. Evangel (21-5, 10-1) can earn a share of the championship with a victory over Parkway on Monday.
Airline and Evangel split their district games with both decided by one run. The Lady Vikings won 2-1 at Evangel on Feb. 23. The Lady Eagles won 3-2 in eight innings at Airline on March 21.
It’s the second district championship for Airline coach Regina Digilormo this school year. She coached Airline to the District 1-5A volleyball title in the fall.
At Parkway, the Lady Vikings scored all eight runs in the third inning. Maddie Ennis had two of Airline’s six singles in the inning. Megan Clinton, Lexi Gray, Caroline Easom and Jessica Baffuto had the others.
Baffuto went 3-for-4. Hannah Hutson had two hits, including a double. Easom also had two hits.
Jessica Grubbs pitched five no-hit innings.
Makayla Strother hit a solo home run for Parkway (9-14, 3-8). Abbie Norcross had a double.
At Southwood, the Lady Bucs pounded out 22 hits. Hannah Borah went 5-for-5 with two home runs, including a grand slam, a triple and seven RBI. She was a double short of hitting for the cycle.
Lauren Edwards went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Savannah Salley had three hits, including a double. Lacey Dodson hit a home run and singled.
Winning pitcher Shelby Hensley had two doubles. Sidney Arnold had two hits, including a triple, and two RBI.
McKayla Burkart smacked a two-run homer. Leah Hopson had two hits. Courtney Garrett had a double.
Haughton improved to 14-14 and completed district play 8-4. The Lady Bucs will finish third in the seven-team district.
At North Webster, Hallie Saintignan went 3-for-4 with a triple in Benton’s win. Makenzie Chaffin had two hits and an RBI.
Taylor Jones had an RBI-double. Abby Kent and Sarah Koeppen also had doubles. Koeppen scattered six hits and struck out six to get the win.
Benton evened its record at 14-14.
