The Airline Lady Vikings and the Haughton Lady Bucs won games in the Sulphur tournament Saturday.

Airline won twice, defeating Marrero Academy of Our Lady 11-1 and Vinton 16-1.

Haughton split games, defeating Napoleonville Assumption 7-4 and losing to Slidell 6-1.

Parkway and Benton both dropped two games in the tournament Saturday. The Lady Panthers lost to Gonazalez East Ascension 9-5 in eight innings and Mamou 10-2. The Lady Tigers fell Zachary 6-2 and Live Oak 8-4.

Maddie Ennis went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and three RBI in Airline’s win over Academy of Our Lady. Jessica Grubbs went 2-for-2.

The Lady Vikings held a slim 3-1 lead after four innings and then scored eight in top of the fifth.

Hannah Hutson and Lexi Gray both had two-run homers in the fifth. Brooklyn Brandon led off the inning with a double. Kourntnee White, who had three RBI in the game, had an RBI-double.

Ennis’ two-out double scored Jessica Baffuto and Caroline Easom to make it 11-1. Baffuto and Easom both reached base on singles.

Hutson pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts.

Airline scored 11 runs in the first in the three-inning game against Vinton.

White had a grand slam home run. Ennis went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Easom had a home run, double and two RBI.

Grubbs, who struck out eight and allowed one hit, had two doubles and two RBI. Gray had a triple, and Molly Dickens had a double.

Airline (13-5, 6-0) has a big District 1-5A contest Tuesday against Evangel Christian (13-3, 4-1) at home. The Lady Vikings defeated Evangel 2-1 on Feb. 23. Evangel went 3-0 in the Sulphur tournament, defeating Assumption 12-0, Denham Springs 11-1 and St. Joseph’s Academy 3-1.

Shelby Hensley went 3-for-3 in Haughton’s win over Assumption. Pitcher Leah Hopson had two hits, including a double, and scattered seven hits. Lauren Edwards went 2-for-3.

Sidney Arnold and Hannah Borah both hit two-run home runs.

Arnold’s homer was part of a four-run first inning. It followed a two-run double by Courtney Garrett.

Borah’s homer gave the Lady Bucs a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Hensley homered against Slidell and allowed six hits in six innings. She allowed just one earned run as four errors hurt the Lady Bucs’ cause.

Haughton (10-10) visits Natchitoches Central in a non-district game on Monday. The Lady Bucs are tied with Evangel for second in District 1-5A.

Parkway’s loss to East Ascension was its second in extra innings in the tournament.

The Lady Spartans scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie it at 5. They followed that with four more in the eighth.

Madelyn Elliott had a huge game, going 4-for-4 with four doubles and three RBI.

Abbie Norcross allowed only two earned runs in five innings.

Parkway struggled at the plate against Mamou, getting just four hits. Faith Ingles had a double.

Parkway (8-8, 2-4) resumes District 1-5A play at home Tuesday against Southwood.

Benton had 11 hits in the loss to Zachary, which broke open a tight game with three runs in the sixth.

Abby Kent went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Makenzie Chaffin also went 3-for-4. Anna Claire Kratzer had two hits, including a double.

Hallie Saintignan had an RBI-double.

Chaffin, Saintignan and Sarah Koeppen all had two hits against Live Oak. Chaffin had a bases-loaded triple in Benton’s four-run fifth. Saintignan had a triple in the third inning.

Benton (6-11) visits Loyola College Prep in a non-district game Monday.
