Haughton was the only parish team to pick up a win on the first day of the Sulphur tournament Friday.

The Lady Bucs downed host Sulphur 11-1. In other games, Parkway dropped a tough 5-3 decision to Destrehan, Airline lost to Acadiana 7-1 and Benton fell to St. Joseph’s 8-0.

Six Lady Bucs got hits in the six-inning win. Shelby Hensley, Savannah Salley and Courtney Garrett had two RBI apiece. McKayla Burkart, Reanna Crumpler and Sidney Arnold also had hits.

Leah Hopson was the winning pitcher as the Lady Bucs evened their record at 9-9. Haughton faces Slidell and Assumption on Saturday.

Allie Hunt had an impressive performance on the mound in Parkway’s loss. She allowed just four hits and struck out eight.

Maecy Ingram and Lauren Jones had two hits each. Madelyn Elliott had two RBI.

Parkway led 2-0 after six innings, but Destrehan tied it in the top of the seventh. The Lady Wildcats went up 3-2 in the ninth, but the Lady Panthers stayed alive with a run in the bottom of the inning. Destrehan scored two in the 10th to win it.

Parkway (8-6) faces East Ascension and Mamou on Saturday.

Airline got only four hits in the loss to Acadiana. Kourtnee White went 2-for-3. Caroline Easom and Maddie Ennis had doubles.

Acadiana improved to 12-3. Airline (11-5) plays Academy of Our Lady and Sulphur on Saturday.

Hallie Saintignan went 2-for-4 with a double in Benton’s loss. Taylor Jones also had two hits. Sarah Koeppen had a single and walked twice.

St. Joseph’s improved to 12-4. Benton (6-9) plays Zachary and Live Oak on Saturday.
