The Bossier Bearkats successfully defending their Bossier City wrestling title Thursday night.
The Bearkats defeated Parkway 59-24 and Airline 54-25. Parkway defeated Airline 51-21 to finish second.
Bossier begins defense of its regional championship today at Huntington. The tournament concludes Saturday.
Bossier and Parkway went head-to-head in the final match of the night.
Bearkat wrestlers pinned their opponents in eight straight weight classes to give Bossier a 48-6 lead.
“We had a lot of young, very green kids on our roster and they stepped up to the plate tonight,” Bossier coach Bo Shelton said. “I challenged them to come out and wrestle better than they ever have in their lives and they did it.
“They came out and put themselves in a position to win strictly because they worked hard and they never gave up and they never quit.”
Bossier had seven City champions — Evan Taylor (106 pounds), Xavier Chism (126), Oscar Telles (138), Chris Hall (160), Jalen Oliver (182), Donnie Edwards (220) and Roytrez Williams (285).
Parkway’s City champions were Alex Simmaly (113), Jason Pitts (120) and Cody Thomas (145).
Airline’s City champions were Jaquavis Hart (132), Keegan Gilligan (152), Tyler Almond (170) and Eric McGuire (195).
