Three Bossier Parish teams advanced in the first round of the high school footall state playoffs Friday night, but the season came to an end for two others.
In Class 5A,the Airline Vikings and Parkway Panthers advanced. The Haughton Buccaneers lost.
No. 6 seed Airline (9-2) defeated No. 27 East St. John 30-20. Airline will play the winner of Saturday's first-round game between West Jefferson and Jesuit. The game will be at Airline if Jesuit wins.
No. 7 seed Parkway defeated No. 26 Live Oaks 36-13. The Panthers (10-1) will travel to No. 23 Hahnvile (6-4), a 25-21 upset winner over No. 10 St. Paul's, in the second round.
No. 24 Haughton fell to No. 8 Ouachita 55-20 in Monroe. The Bucs ended the season 7-4.
In Class 3A, the No. 8 Bossier Bearkats lost a 28-27 heartbreaker to No. 25 Jewel Sumner. Down 28-14 in the fourth quarter, the Bearkats rallied to within one with 24 seconds left. But the PAT attempt failed after a bad snap. Bossier, the District 1-3A champion, ended the season 7-4.
In Class 1A, No. 29 seedLouisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing pulled off a huge upset, knocked off No. 4 seed Mangham 29-23 on the road. The Lions (8-3) will host No. 13 Basile (10-1) in the second round.
