Girls basketball: Bossier, Haughton, New Tech claim victories

bentongirls1The Bossier Lady Kats, Haughton Lady Bucs and Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing Lady Lions posted victories Tuesday night.

Bossier opened District 1-3A play with a 43-30 home victory over North DeSoto.

Haughton improved to 3-1 in District 1-5A with a 49-45 victory over Captain Shreve at Haughton.

Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing got another big performance out of Dennisha Chambers in a 54-36 District 1-1A road victory over Logansport.

The news wasn’t as good for Airline, Parkway and Benton.

The Lady Vikings suffered a lopsided District 1-5A home loss to No. 1-ranked Southwood.

Also in 1-5A, Parkway dropped a 62-41 decision to Byrd at home.

Benton fought all the way back from a 14-0 deficit but ultimately lost a hard-fought battle to District 1-4A leader Huntington 64-48 at Benton.

At Bossier, Deniera McGlothan had 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks to lead the Lady Kats (12-11). It was her third double-double in a row.

Laschae Gadson added nine points. Bree Williams and Tiffany Lynn combined for 11.

At Haughton, Mikayla Barber and Mattie McCoy tossed in 17 points each to lead the Lady Bucs (17-6, 3-1), who are in second place in the district behind Southwood (22-1, 4-0).

At Logansport, Chambers poured in 41 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Lady Lions improved to 9-8 overall and 2-0 in district.

At Benton, the Lady Tigers didn’t score until Madi Sessions hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute to go in the first quarter.

Huntington (13-9, 5-0) led 16-5 after the first quarter, but Benton steadily cut into the lead.

Sessions nailed another 3-pointer late in the second quarter and Benton trailed 23-22 at the half.

The Lady Raiders stretched the lead to eight early in the third quarter but the Lady Tigers battled back again.

Benton scored the final four points of the third quarter to go ahead 43-42.

The Lady Tigers held their last lead at 45-44. Huntington hit a 3-pointer to start a 9-0 run. Benton never got closer than four the rest of the way.

Sessions led the Lady Tigers (12-9, 2-2) with 18 points. Megan Fream added 14 and Gabbey Jackson 13.

At Airline, the Lady Vikings dropped to 9-14 overall and 1-3 in district.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers fell to 3-17 and 2-2.
