BOSSIER CITY - A celebration of life service for Katherine Cockerham Barnette (Mrs. Virgil C. Barnette) will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Reverend Billy Pierce officiating and Mr. Arno Easterly giving the eulogy. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Katherine was born on November 24, 1931 to Reverend John Allen and Evie Dickerson Cockerham in Winnfield, La and passed away on February 8, 2013 at home following a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Doyline, La. She was a homemaker, excellent seamstress, pianist, and avid outdoorswoman.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Earl Cockerham and Henry Houston Cockerham, step mother Lottie Gibson Cockerham, and son, Randy Barnette.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Virgil C. Barnette, son Richard Barnette of Doyline, daughters Sheryl Ostendorff and husband Tom of Shreveport, Jennifer Core and husband Tab of Gonzales, La, Amy Rutherford and husband David of Benton, and daughter in law Sharon Barnette of Bossier City. She is also survived by grandchildren Seth Ostendorff and wife Lauren and their children, Olivia and Jack; Michael Ostendorff and wife Amy and their children Cecilia and Emilie Anne; Hannah, Gabrielle, Caroline and Ella Core; Nathan and Allie Rutherford; Harrison Barnette, Meredith Barnette and fiancé Jase Darden and their son Asher Darden. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ted Warren and Hospice of Shreveport-Bossier for the loving care they provided. The family requests any memorials be made to the charity of donor's choice.
