It’s been a tough season for Coach Chris White and the Airline Vikings.
But the Vikings ended it on a high note with a 74-57 victory over playoff-bound Byrd on Senior Night at Airline.
Elsewhere in 1-5A season finales, Parkway fell to district champion Captain Shreve 67-64 and Haughton lost to Southwood 83-52.
In District 1-5A girls games, Parkway defeated Captain Shreve 49-44, Airline lost to Byrd 58-45 and Haughton fell to district champion and No. 1 ranked Southwood 72-22.
At Airline, the Vikings trailed the Yellow Jackets (23-7, 6-4) by seven at the half and then blew the game open in the third quarter with a 30-9 run.
The Vikings hit four 3-pointers in the quarter. Hayden Hildebrand scored 10 of his game-high 26 points. Demetrius Early scored 10 of his 13.
Andrew Latson added 18 points for the Vikings (8-17, 4-6), including seven in the third.
At Parkway, it looked like the Panthers were on their way to an upset of the Gators (19-13, 10-0).
Parkway led 54-41 after three quarters, but the Gators outscored the Panthers 26-10 in the fourth.
Brodrick Jefferson led Parkway (8-16, 3-7) with 17 points. Freshman Keondre Wudtee added 13 and Chris Yates had 11.
At Haughton, Tyler Grigsby paced the Bucs (7-10, 1-9) with 21 points. P.J. Douglas had 12.
The Airline girls led Byrd by one at the half but the Lady Jackets took control in the third quarter with a 19-7 run.
Nikki Bryant led Airline (11-18, 3-7) with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jasmyn Carswell had 11 points.
At Haughton, Brittany Robinett scored 10 points to lead the Lady Bucs, who may have to play Southwood again in the first round of the playoffs next week.
Monday night, Benton closed the regular season with a 65-61 loss to Woodlawn in District 1-4A. The Lady Tigers should still make the playoffs as a wild-card team.
