The Parkway Lady Panthers handed the Byrd Lady Jackets their first District 1-5A loss 9-4 Tuesday at Byrd.
Parkway’s victory gave the Haughton Lady Bucs sole possession of first place in the district.
Haughton, which got past Benton 13-10 in a non-district game, is 4-0 in district. Parkway improved to 4-1.
Elsewhere in 1-5A, the Airline Lady Vikings knocked off Captain Shreve 8-4 at Airline.
At Byrd, the Lady Panthers broke open a tight game late.
Freshman Haydn Parker doubled with the bases loaded, bringing home three runs. Carol Cash had a two-run home run and went 2-for-4.
Parkway coach Neil May said Cheyenne Rogers pitched a good game and the Lady Panthers backed her up with great defense.
“They hit the ball hard,” he said. “We just made some great plays in the field.”
At Benton, Natalie Smith went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs to lead the Lady Bucs (10-3).
Lani Woods and Emily Edwards had two hits each. Brooke Payton had a grand slam home run.
Haley Miller pitched in place of ace Anna Dies, who broke a finger on her non-pitching hand against Brusly Saturday.
Pitcher Gabby Kespelher went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Benton (10-5). Savannah Collo went 2-for-4 with a double.
Alyssa Malone and Taylor Thompson had two hits each.
At Airline, Katie Smith went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Lady Vikings (9-6, 2-3). Mary Macaulay had a double.
Kayla Ann Ranit, who allowed eight hits, was the winning pitcher.
Saturday, Corey Johnson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Bree Williams had a three-run inside the park home run to lift Bossier past Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing 18-6 in the Converse tournament.
