Red River Waterway Commission awards Sci-Port $51,225 for 4th graders to visit Center

SHREVEPORT – The Red River Waterway Commission and Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center were present at seven recent school board meetings to announce the commission’s sponsorship for RiverWorks Discovery, the latest traveling exhibition at Sci-Port.

The funds will allow for all 4th graders of Title I schools (teachers and chaperones included) in Bossier, Caddo, Avoyelles, Natchitoches, Rapides, Red River and Grant Parishes to visit the Center for free.

Additionally, 4th graders of Title I schools in the seven parishes will experience the Center's latest Traveling Exhibition RiverWorks Discovery and take part in “What’s My Watershed?," a program led by Sci-Port staff.

“Sci-Port is thrilled to find a project that the Red River Waterway Commission can support which benefits each of their parishes,” said Sci-Port President/CEO Ann Fumarolo. “These funds will allow more Louisiana students to experience Sci-Port and a unique exhibit on a topic we can all relate to – the Red River.”

"On behalf of the Red River Waterway Commission, we are proud to be a part of the RiverWorks Discovery experience," said Executive Director of the Commission Ken Guidry.
