Parkway's Rogers named 1-5A softball MVP

Parkway senior pitcher Cheyenne Rogers has been named the MVP on the All-District 1-5A softball team selected by the coaches.
Rogers was 16-6 overall and 11-1 in district play for the 1-5A champion Lady Panthers. She also batted .427 with 16 RBIs and 13 doubles.
Parkway placed five other players on the first team — freshman catcher Haydn Parker, sophomore shortstop Alexis Rayborn, senior first baseman Danielle Cruickshank, sophomore outfielder Kelsey Gallman and junior utility Carol Cash.
Parker batted .465 and led the team with 42 RBIs. Rayborn had a team-high .542 average and 29 RBIs. Cruickshank batted .370 with 27 RBIs and five home runs. Gallman batted .289 with 13 RBIs.  Cash had 14 RBIs and batted .310.
District runner-up Haughton placed six players on the first team — sophomore pitcher Anna Dies, junior catcher Emily Edwards, junior second baseman Brooke Payton, senior first baseman Lani Woods, junior shortstop Haley Krumpelbeck and senior designated player Michelle Lane.
Dies went 13-5 despite pitching with pins in her glove finger for much of the season. Payton batted .430 with seven home runs. Edwards hit .441 with five home runs. Woods batted .359 with four home runs. Krumpelbeck had 24 RBIs and a .364 average. Lane batted .289.
Airline, which made the playoffs, put two players on the first team — junior shortstop Katie Smith and junior outfielder Carly McIntosh.
Smith batted .430 and had 24 RBIs. She also had a .950 fielding percentage.
Parkway’s Neil May was named Coach of the Year.
Parkway infielder Brooke Stigall was a second-team selection.
Airline’s second-team selections were catcher Miranda Young, infielder Lindsay Fronzaglio, infielder Madison Rowland and outfielder Sara Martin.
Parish players named honorable mention were Kirsten Martin (Haughton); Ashley Salinas and Brooke Daugherty, Jamie Roberts (Airline); and Jordan Hubbard, Mary Kate Bozeman and Brittany Bryant (Parkway).
