I remember at the age of 12 when my growth spurt started. I especially remember the pains in my legs. They were so bad that sometimes I couldn’t sleep.
Looking back, I always use that as an example — anything that grows, from teenagers to towns, there will be sleepless nights.
We all know growth that is a good thing, but there are always pains associated with it.
It’s something the town of Benton will come to know well as it keeps expanding.
The first major issue that the city will try to address is its water needs.
Although the town proper lost some residents, the area directly south of its borders has grown.
Mayor Wayne Cathcart will ask the Board of Aldermen at their August meeting to fund an engineering study to evaluate potential water sources.
Right now, Benton pays Bossier City $4.55 per 1,000 gallons of water plus a monthly $15.80 flat fee, which translates to a $4.99 rate for town residents and $5.74 for those outside the town limits. This is the same rate paid by Bossier Parish residents who live outside Bossier City.
