NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State’s season-opening football game at Baylor has been shifted to Friday, Sept. 2 and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Network, Big XII Conference officials announced Wednesday.

The Demons’ visit to play the Bears will kick off at 6:30 at McLane Stadium.

NSU picks up a valuable extra day between the season opener at Baylor and the Demons’ home opener on Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Southland Conference debut against Incarnate Word.

“This was an ideal opportunity for us. We get our program and our university on national television, and we get an extra day to prepare for our conference opener at home,” said head coach Jay Thomas. “When (athletic director Greg) Mr. Burke asked me, I didn’t need to think twice.”

Adding to the appeal of the matchup with Baylor for NSU’s fans, the Spirit of Northwestern marching band, some 300 strong, will be performing at the game.

“We are at our best when our band is with us,” said Thomas. “From what I’ve been told by our fans and families, our band is undefeated. They make an awesome impact for NSU everywhere they go.”
