BOSSIER CITY, LA – There is nothing like a mother’s love and no one shared their love more than our mother, Gurlie Roy Santoro. On Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014, she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Born September 2, 1925 in Milton, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Damas and Orena Viator.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lester Roy; infant son, Thomas Roy; two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Baileigh Benoit; her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Tony Santoro; daughters, Nona Broussard and husband Russell, Geralyn Woods and husband Randy, and Germaine Benoit and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Roddy Broussard, Chad Broussard and wife Kristi, Jason Keith and wife Tasha, Nicole Coburn and husband Randy, Ryan Benoit and wife Holly, and Josh Keith; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014, with Father Charles Glorioso officiating. Entombment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14th from 6p.m. until 8p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA.

Gurlie was a wonderful person who showed love to everyone she came in contact with. She was caring and beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her family, and her friends. She raised all of her girls…Nona, Geralyn and Germaine, to be strong just as she was.

She was passionate about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gurlie supported all of them in everything they did and was always their biggest cheerleader. She loved music, dancing, cooking and entertaining her family, but most of all she loved her Church and her Lord.

Today the music is silent and there are no cheers but tomorrow holds promise for us all. The Bible says in Revelation 21, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Roddy and Chad Broussard, Jason and Josh Keith, Ryan Benoit and Randy Coburn.
