Mary Lou Vonada Painter

Bossier City, LA – Celebration of the life services for Mary Lou Vonada Painter, 88, of Bossier City, Louisiana were held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Barksdale United Methodist Church in Bossier City. Rev. Kendall Docter officiated.

Mary Lou was born May 2, 1930 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and joined her beloved Frank when her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called her home Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Bossier City, La.

She graduated high school in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and married Frank Gerald Painter. Together, they traveled and were stationed in various parts of the world while Frank served 20 years in the United States Air Force. She enjoyed an expansive career in the banking industry and retired after more than 40 years of service which included service with National Bank of Bossier and Red River Valley Bank in Bossier City.

Mary Lou was an accomplished pianist and organist. As a young girl, she had the privilege of playing with the Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra. She and Frank were long-time devoted members of Barksdale United Methodist Church where she served as the church organist for over 50 years. In her later years when she was unable to get out as frequently, she began a ministry of calling people she knew and playing their favorite songs on the piano over the phone.

Her family was the love of her life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised”(Pro 31:29-30). Her kindness and gentle spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Guy Vo n a da and mother, Mary Vo n a da; her loving husband of 54 years, Frank Gerald Painter; nephew, Kevin Vonada. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by surviving family members: two sons, Gerald Lee and wife, Theresa; Brian Keith and wife, Annette; three grandsons, Jeremy To dd and wife, Caitlin; Andrew Craig and wife Melanie; Justin Chase and wife Tiffany; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Wade, Milena LeAnn, Aaron Michael and Harper Landry; two brothers, Donald Guy Vo n a da and wife Sylvia; John Alan Vonada and wife Damaine; one sister, Karen Lee Hewitt and husband Al. Surviving nieces and nephews, Debby Hooker and husband Ron; Nathan Vonada and wife Maria; Monica Allori and husband Greg; Kim Lewis and husband Bob, and Jeff Carlino.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Barksdale United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to the church body of Barksdale United Methodist Church, lifelong neighbors and special friends to Mary Lou during the last few months of her battle with dementia.

The family also wishes to thank Dr. Henry Kiser and the nurses and staff at Promise Hospital of Bossier City for their professional and loving care for Mom.
