Parish teams fare well in Benton Dixie tournament

Two teams from Bossier Parish won championships in the Benton Dixie Open last weekend and another finished runner-up.

The Bossier Dixie All-Stars won the 7-8 Machine Pitch tournament. The Rampage, a team of all-stars from Bossier, won the 9-10 Live Arm division. The Benton Sandlot, which is composed of players on the Benton 9-10 All-Star team, finished runner-up.

The Shreveport Drillers won the 11-12 O-Zone tournament and the Ouachita Pride finished runner-up.

The tournament had 27 teams in the three divisions.

The Bossier Dixie 7-8 All-Stars went 5-0 in the tournament, capped by a 9-1 victory over the Shreveport Tide in the championship game Sunday night.

Bossier won its four other games by a combined score of 56-6.

Members of the Bossier team are Barrett Newman, Cade Josting, Brandon Levy, Chase Rambin, Clayton Brandon, Kenner Lauterbach, Mason Morgan, Riley Sitter, Roland Wilkinson, Trent Lape, Tyler Bouillion and Wesley Gardner.

Members of the Benton 9-10 team are Grayson Gates, Owen Wainscott, Brock Vanhoy, Rylan Lawrence, Cade Waites, Adam Smith, Cameron Braun, Daymon Burrell, Ryley Sharp, Cody Jones, Jessie Coille and Hunter Newton.

The Benton Dixie program is in its second year. Benton Athletics, Inc., president Mat Gates said about 400 kids participated in the program this year, an increase of about 100 over 2012.
