The Airline Vikings and Parkway Panthers split season-opening junior varsity and freshman football games Monday at Preston Crownover Stadium.

Parkway won the JV game 32-12. Airline took the freshman game 30-6.

Kyle Scott and Kaleb Reese returned interceptions for touchdowns in Parkway’s JV victory.

Ricky Norwood threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Chase Turner and scored on a 6-yard run. Amani Larry and Alec Crain hooked up on a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Israel Collins had an interception.

In the freshman game, Bryson Connell threw a short second-quarter touchdown pass to Carson Slack and Airline led 16-0 at the half.

Carter Slack made a nice throw to Daniel Smith for a touchdown on fourth-and-long in the third quarter. The Parkway defense had a couple of sacks before the TD.

Thomas Williams had a long run on the drive. Smith also contributed a good gain.

Airline’s Melvin Smith almost pulled down a one-handed interception, and the Vikings defense played well overall.

Dre Robinson had a touchdown run called back because of a penalty. An interception set up Airline’s final TD, a short run by Williams.

Malik Cooper passed to Peyton Lewis for Parkway’s touchdown late in the game. Samorii Dooley had some nice runs.

The Airline roster includes most of the players on the Greenacres and Cope teams that finished 1-2 in the middle school eighth-grade district last season.
