Bossier City’s Tiffani Nash finished runner-up in girls 18 singles in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl Junior Tennis Classic last week.
The tournament, a USTA Southern Level 2 event, was hosted by Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club.
Nash, a junior at Loyola College Prep, had to retire in the finals against No. 3 seed Tiffany Shaw of Little Rock, Ark., after just two games because of an ankle injury.
The unseeded Nash knocked off No. 2 seed Alyse Cormier of Eunice 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. She defeated unseeded Jade Houston of Raleigh, N.C., 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Nash won her first two matches over Kendell Byers of Waxhall, N.C., and Mary Houston of Fayetteville, Ark., in straight sets.
Paris Washington, a sophomore at Parkway, reached the quarterfinals of the girls’ 16 singles.
The unseeded Washington defeated Kaylin Moody of Brandon, Miss., 6-2, 6-2 in the second.
She won the first set against No. 4 seed Brooke Nguyen of Harvey 6-4. Washington led 4-0 in the second when Nguyen retired.
Washington was unable to play her quarterfinal match against Madison Whitley of Slidell. The result was listed as a walkover (personal circumstance) on the draw sheet.
The tournament, which was held for the first time since the early 1980s, attracted 182 players.
