The Veterans’ Job and Resource Fair is set for Thursday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bossier Civic Center.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Hero2Hired, Goodwill Industries of Northwest Louisiana and the City of Bossier City. The resource fair is sponsored by Willis-Knighton Health System and Boomtown Casino and Hotel.
The Bossier Chamber of Commerce has held eight military-related job fairs since 2011. Between 2012 and 2013, the job fairs have served more than 500 veteran job seekers and included over 150 business participants. In 2013 alone, over 97 on-site interviews were conducted at the Veterans’ Job and Resource Fair, resulting in 78 job offers.
In addition to aiding veterans’ employment search, the fairs also help to share service programs that are offered to help meet the needs of those who have served our country.
The upcoming Veterans’ Job and Resource Fair will be held at a critical time for our area as the Air Force is anticipating at least a 25,000 member reduction in force over the next two to three years. The Army is also expected to cut its force by up to 60,000 in that time frame as well.
Prior to the job fair, the partnering organizations will host seminars to help veterans with skills such as building resumes and preparing for interviews.
