Bossier, New Tech advance to second round

The Bossier Bearkats and Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing Lions advanced to the second round of the boys basketball playoffs with victories Friday night.

Bossier, the No. 2 seed in Class 3A, avoided a major upset. The Bearkats held off No. 31 De La Salle 57-53. New Tech, the No. 12 seed in Class 1A, dominated the second half in a 58-41 victory over East Iberville.

Bossier (24-7) hosts No. 15 Parkview Baptist, an 84-63 winner over No. 18 Rayville, on Tuesday night. New Tech (19-6) will travel to Baton Rouge to face No. 5 Christian Life, a 70-48 winner over No. 28 Hanson Memorial.

Senior guard Devonte Hall shook off some early foul trouble and led Bossier with 27 points. Kentrell Hardy added 14 and Darius Leary 11.

Keldrick Carper led New Tech with 14 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Chiner Long added 11 and Willie Turks 10.
