Bossier teams roll in first round of Dixie World Series

Bossier All-Star teams rolled to victories in first-round games Saturday in the Dixie Boys and Jr. Boys World Series tournaments at Tinsley Park.

Bossier defeated Lewis County, Tenn., 18-0 in the Jr. Boys (13s) tournament and 9-2 in the Boys tournament.

Both Bossier teams play in the winners’ bracket Sunday at 7 p.m. Bossier plays Searcy, Ark., a 7-3 winner over West Volusia, Fla., in Jr. Boys and Sevier County, Ark., a 7-5 winner over Spanish Fort, Ala, in Boys.

In other first-round Jr. Boys games Saturday, Dothan, Ala., defeated Sumter, S.C, 11-7, Halifax County, Va., downed Pittsburg, Texas, 6-1, Jefferson Parish, La., beat West Georgia, 7-1, and Columbus County, N..C, dropped Purvis, Miss., 7-1.

In the only other winners’ bracket game Sunday, Dothan plays Halifax County at 4 p.m. In losers’ bracket elimination games, Sumter meets Pittsburg at 1 p.m., Purvis plays West Georgia at 1, and West Volusia faces Lewis County at 4.

In other Boys games Saturday, Hilton Head, S.C., defeated Dallas, N.C., 7-3, Halifax County, Va., knocked off Dyersburg, Tenn., 11-1, Spring Hill, Fla., downed Monroe, La., 11-1, and Hattiesburg, Miss., edged Troup County, Ga., 5-4.

In other winners’ bracket games Sunday, Hilton Head plays Halifax County at 4 p.m., and Spring Hill faces Hattiesburg at 7. In losers’ bracket elimination games Dallas plays Dyersburg at 1 p.m., Monroe meets Troup County at 1, and Spanish Fort takes on Center at 4.

In the Bossier Jr. Boys game, Bossier’s Cole Horton went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Derious Bradford had a home run, double and three RBIs.

Garrett Hable smacked two doubles and had four RBIs. Harrison Tauzin went 2-for-4. Eric Brown, Amani Larry and Caleb Reese all had doubles. Turner Toms had a single.

Nick Heckman, Christion Rayner, Turner Toms and Dustin Barron combined on a one- hitter with 17 strikeouts. The game went the full seven innings, Bossier scored nine in the top of the seventh.

Jonathan Brandon went 3-for-4 in the Bossier’s victory over Center. David Maxey had three RBIs. Eric Williams struck out nine in six innings.

In the day’s best game, Hattiesburg scored a run in the bottom of the first extra inning to defeat Troup. Hattiesburg won the Jr. Boys and Boys titles last year.

The game featured outstanding pitching by both teams. Troup had four hits and Hattiesburg had three.

Joseph Gray came up big for Hattiesburg in the eighth. He hit a two-out double, stole third and scored the winning run on a passed ball, according to Hattiesburg scoring on GameChanger. Cole Freeman had a big game for Troup with three hits.

Boyce Kobleur had an outstanding game for Hilton Head in its win over Dallas with a home run, double and four RBIs.
