Prolec GE, a leader in energy infrastructure and a joint venture between Xignux and GE Vernova, has completed a $34 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The investment bolsters the company’s production capacity and positions it as a critical contributor to U.S. energy transition goals.
The expansion, which began in early 2023, included the addition of a third production line and significant layout improvements to the existing facility. These enhancements increase the plant’s ability to produce three-phase pad-mount transformers, critical for renewable energy projects such as wind farms and solar parks. The project also optimized the manufacturing of network transformers and voltage regulators, resulting in a 15% capacity boost for these product lines.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
The expanded facility brings significant economic benefits to the Shreveport area, creating over 270 new positions and further establishing Prolec GE as a major local employer. The plant’s additional production capacity—over 1,500 new transformer units annually—aims to ease supply chain concerns in the U.S. energy sector while supporting a reliable and resilient electrical grid.
“This newly expanded facility not only enhances our ability to meet growing customer needs but also strengthens the local economy,” said Ricardo Suarez, CEO of Prolec. “Our talented team worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life, and we are excited to continue delivering high-quality products while supporting the community.”
Collaboration and Partnerships
The unveiling event celebrated collaboration between government, industry, and community leaders, with attendance from federal and local dignitaries, including representatives from U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s office, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s office, and U.S. Congressman Mike Johnson. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux also participated in the ceremony.
“It is essential for government, industry, and community leaders to collaborate early and frequently to drive growth in the manufacturing sector,” said Xignux CEO Juan Ignacio Garza Herrera.
Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, emphasized the project’s alignment with national energy goals. “This new manufacturing line and the jobs created will continue to improve our supply chain for critical grid equipment, enabling energy security and national security for the United States and beyond.”
Advancing U.S. Energy Transition Goals
As North America’s largest transformer producer, Prolec GE designs, manufactures, and distributes products for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. The expanded Shreveport facility enhances the company’s capacity to support the growing energy demands of the renewable and conventional energy sectors.
Facility tours highlighted new state-of-the-art equipment, advanced testing labs, and streamlined production processes. Production employees provided insights into the expanded capabilities, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and workforce development.
With this significant investment, Prolec GE reinforces its role as a cornerstone in the U.S. energy transition, driving local economic growth and enhancing the nation’s energy infrastructure.
