High school boys basketball: Late Parkway rally comes up short against Huntington; Benton, Haughton win

A late Parkway rally came up short as the Panthers fell to the Huntington Raiders 44-40 Tuesday night at Parkway.

The Panthers trailed 37-29 with just over two minutes left. Caleb Evans sank a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 37-34. After the Raiders went back up by five, Evans converted a conventional three-point play to get the Panthers with 37-35 with 42 seconds left.

Down 40-37, Parkway had the ball down missed on a contested drive to the basket with 11 seconds left. The Raiders made four straight free throws to put the game away.

Evans led Parkway (6-6) with 10 points. Antonio Gladney and Kaleb Williams scored nine each. Huntington’s Peyton Parker scored all of his game-high 14 points in the second half. The Raiders improved to 8-2.

Elsewhere, Haughton improved to 6-6 with an 85-63 victory over Weston (5-12) at Weston, Benton evened its record at 4-4 with a 43-40 victory over Northwood at Northwood, and Airline fell to Ruston 65-40 at Ruston.
