The Bossier Parish Police Jury (BPPJ) held its final agenda meeting of the year on December 18, featuring presentations and discussions on critical topics impacting the parish.
Tourism and Sports Update
Ms. Stacy Brown, President and CEO of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, opened the meeting with a presentation on the impact of tourism and sports in 2024. She highlighted the economic benefits these sectors have brought to the region and provided an overview of plans for 2025.
Tax Payment Extension Explained
Assistant Chief Deputy David Miller of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office addressed jurors regarding the delay in distributing tax notices. Miller explained that residents have been granted an extension to pay their taxes, with the deadline now set for January 31. This measure ensures taxpayers have adequate time to fulfill their obligations without penalties.
Public Hearings on Zoning Changes
A significant topic on the agenda was the scheduling of public hearings in the first quarter of 2025. These hearings will evaluate applications for zoning changes related to proposed subdivisions in the parish. The sessions aim to gather community input and address concerns about the developments’ impact on surrounding areas.
Strategic Growth and Transportation Plan
The Police Jury approved a proposal from Gresham Smith, an architecture, engineering, and design firm, to update the Bossier Parish Transportation Plan. The plan will address the parish’s growing infrastructure needs driven by rapid commercial and residential development.
Police Jury President Philip Rodgers emphasized the importance of proactive planning.
“Next year, we will hold a series of meetings focused on creating a comprehensive plan to effectively manage the significant growth in both residential and commercial properties in Bossier,” Rodgers said. “These discussions will involve the community to ensure that our strategies align with the needs and aspirations of residents and businesses. Our goal is to promote sustainable growth while enhancing the quality of life for all Bossier residents.”
Three-Year Overlay Program
Jurors reviewed details of the parish’s Three-Year Overlay Program, an initiative targeting the renovation and resurfacing of 575 miles of paved roads. This program aims to improve safety and drivability throughout Bossier Parish.
