High school wrestling: Airline wrestlers post high finishes in New Orleans meet

Airline senior Danon Walker and sophomore Jackson Larkins placed second and third in their respective weight classes in the Trey Culotta Invitational.

The meet was held Friday and Saturday at Brother Martin in New Orleans.

Walker pinned his first four opponents in the 215-pound class, including two in his pool. He lost to Jackson Peak of St. Paul’s by fall in 3:20 in the championship match.

Larkins won two matches in his pool and his first-round match in the 106-pound class main draw. After losing in the semifinals, he won one consolation match then defeated Jackson Martinez of St. Paul’s in the third-place match by a 6-4 decision.

Bruce Bletz finished sixth in the 132-pound class. Kaleb Manuel was seventh in the 113-pound class.

Airline finished 13th out of 23 teams.
