High school boys basketball: Four parish teams notch district victories

The Parkway Panthers, Airline Vikings, Benton Tigers and Bossier Bearkats won district games Friday night.

In District 1-5A, Parkway defeated Haughton 72-61 at Haughton, Airline downed Huntington 59-55 at Huntington and Benton defeated Byrd 54-43 at Byrd. In the other 1-5A game, Natchitoches Central edged Evangel Christian 44-41 at Evangel.

Natchitoches Central (19-4, 5-0) leads the district. Parkway (14-9, 3-1) and Captain Shreve (15-9, 3-1) are tied for second. They are followed by Haughton (15-11, 2-2), Evangel (11-12, 2-2) Airline (10-15, 2-3) and Huntington (17-8, 2-3).

In District 1-4A, Bossier routed Loyola 68-39 at Loyola.

In the other 1-4A games, Minden hammered North DeSoto 65-16, Booker T. Washington routed Northwood 75-59 and Woodlawn edged Southwood 52-48.

Bossier (11-11, 3-0) and Minden (17-2, 3-0) are tied for first.

At Haughton, Caleb Evans and KB Williams led Parkway with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Tristan Sedberry added 15 and Antonio Gladney 10.

Parkway had 10 pointers. Evans and Sedberry had four each. Williams had two.

Jayden Carey had four of Haughton’s five 3s. He led all scorers with 24 points. Jordan Walton scored 14.

Carey knocked down four 3s in the first half. Parkway had eight of its 3s in the first two quarters.

Haughton led 36-31 at the half and 53-49 after three quarters.

The Bucs made only one field goal in the fourth, a 3-pointer by Walton. Five Panthers combined for 18 points in the quarter as Parkway rallied for the victory.

Parkway visits Airline Tuesday. Haughton is at Benton.

At Huntington, Airline led 41-39 after three quarters. The Vikings went on an 8-2 run to start the fourth.

Airline led 55-47 late in the quarter. Huntington cut the lead to 56-53 with 40 seconds left.

The Raiders had a chance to tie but missed a 3-pointer. Airline got the rebound.

After a time out with 23.9 seconds left, Airline’s Chase Williams made a layup and was fouled. He made the free throw to put the Vikings up 59-53 with 15.6 seconds left.

At Loyola, Kerel Dean poured in 25 points to lead the Bearkats. Tycoreion Williams added nine and Jatravion Bunnery eight.

Bossier led 17-14 after the first quarter then outscored the Flyers 16-7 in the second. The Bearkats went on a 20-5 run in the third quarter with Dean scoring eight.

Loyola dropped to 7-15 and 0-3. Bossier visits Northwood (8-17, 2-1) Tuesday. 

At Byrd, Benton improved to 8-12 and 1-3. Byrd dropped to 5-18 and 0-5.
