High school girls basketball: Parkway, Haughton aim for quarterfinal berths

The Parkway Lady Panthers and Haughton Lady Bucs host second-round non-select Division I playoff games Monday night. 

Parkway (26-4), the No. 1 seed, opens its quest for a third straight state title against No. 17 Thibodaux (18-8). Haughton (26-5), the No. 4 seed, faces No. 13 Destrehan (23-8). Both games tip off at 6.

Parkway and Haughton both received first-round byes. Thibodaux defeated No. 16 Airline 62-54. Destrehan defeated No. 20 Ouachita Parish 56-43.

Parkway hasn’t lost in the playoffs since falling to Ponchatoula 80-79 in double overtime in the 2022 Class 5A title game.

Senior Dakota Howard leads the Lady Panthers. Savannah Wilson, Jasmyne Hendrix, Zara Baker, Khia Thomas, Kenadie Loche and Mahogany Johnson have also played key roles in the team’s success.

Junior post player Zariell Pollard led Thibodaux against Airline with 26 points.

Shaniya Perkins, Skylar Branch and Bella Hammond have carried the scoring load for Haughton. Leigh Williamson and Kamyra Turner have also been key contributors.

Destrehan is the District 8-5A champion. The Lady Wildcats have won nine in a row.

Senior guard a Koi Ursun led Destrehan against Ouachita Parish with 23 points.
