The Benton Tigers, Airline Vikings and Haughton Bucs completed two-game sweeps of their District 1-5A opponents Thursday.
Benton blanked Byrd 7-0 at Benton, Airline edged Evangel Christian 3-2 in eight innings at Evangel and Haughton got past Natchitoches Central 5-4 in nine innings at Haughton.
Elsewhere, Plain Dealing and Bossier split a doubleheader at Plain Dealing. The Bearkats won the first game 9-7 and the Lions took the second 19-12.
At Benton, Tanner Webb pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks.
Five Tigers had singles. Kade Bryant and Cole Snell had two RBI each.
Benton (14-1, 2-0) is scheduled to visit North DeSoto Friday at 6:30. Byrd dropped to 4-10 and 0-2.
At Evangel, Airline scored a run in the top of the eighth to pull out the victory,
Austin Smith reached on an error and made it to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Henry Smith. Austin Smith scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. Drew Robinson sat the Eagles down in order in the bottom of the inning.
Starting pitcher Silas Endris got the Vikings’ only hit. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs. Robinson gave up only one hit in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Airline (8-5, 2-0) is scheduled to host Huntington Saturday at 1.
At Haughton, Troy Fielding scored the winning run from first on Christian Turner’s double with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Landon Rolland, the last of four Haughton pitchers, got the win.
Haughton took 4-2 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Natchitoches Central tied it with one in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Haughton (10-3, 2-0) is scheduled to start a two-game series against Byrd Saturday at 1 at Byrd’s field at LSUS. Natchitoches Central dropped to 8-4 and 0-2.
At Bossier, Plain Dealing’s Jerry Harris and Michael Coyle had two hits each in the first game. Coyle and Colton Smith had two RBI each. Whitney Kirby struck out nine in the five-inning game.
Bossier’s Armani Mobley went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI (per Plain Dealing stats). Amyus Hayes had two hits including a double. Connor Tugwell struck out eight.
Plain Dealing’s Will Boyd went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in the second game. Harris went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Jamarion Baker, Dayton Blake and AJ Taylor all had two RBI. Cade Demoss got the win.
Bossier’s Hayes went 2-for-3 with a triple. Quan Scott had three RBI.
Plain Dealing (2-3) is scheduled to visit Glenbrook Tuesday at 6. Bossier (3-3) is scheduled to host Booker T. Washington in a District 1-4A game Monday at 5.
