High school baseball: Haughton holds off Byrd

The Haughton Bucs held off the Byrd Yellow Jackets 6-5 Monday in the completion of a suspended District 1-5A game at Byrd’s Field at LSUS.

In another 1-5A game, the Parkway Panthers fell to defending champion Captain Shreve 9-6 in the completion of a suspended game.

At LSUS, Haughton led 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth Saturday when the game was suspended because of inclement weather.

The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the sixth then added another one in the seventh. The Jackets had runners at first and third with one out. Justin Adkison then took the mound. He induced a flyout and groundout to end the game.

Seth Jorstad went 2-for-4.

Haughton (11-3, 3-0) and Byrd (4-11, 0-3) are scheduled to complete the two-game series Tuesday at Haughton at 6.

At Parkway, the Panthers led 3-2 in the bottom of the third Saturday when the game was suspended.

Captain Shreve scored two in the top of the fourth then put five more on the board in the fifth. Parkway rallied with two in the fifth and one in the sixth but got no closer.

Kamron Blackshire went 2-for-3. Jax Thomson went 2-for-4. Abel Thetford had two hits, including a double. Dakota Armour had a single and drew two walks.

The Panthers (4-7, 0-1) and Gators (12-3, 3-0) are scheduled to compete the two-game series Thursday at 6 at Captain Shreve.
