In addition to the removal of the outside lanes, the contractor has begun rebuilding those lanes, an ongoing operation taking place on the full length of the project from near Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive.
Other construction work includes extensive drainage improvements and replacement of numerous drainage structures throughout the project.
Currently, the Old Minden Road and Industrial Drive interchange ramps remain closed to allow for the reconstruction of the roadway at these locations. Both interchanges will be reopened in late April/early May once the outside lanes at these locations have been built.
The contractor will then shift to the next interchange for reconstruction, and additional information on those locations will be issued at that time.
The project is currently 74% complete, and it anticipated to be complete in late 2025/early 2026, weather and other factors permitting.
As a reminder, commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) such as 18-wheelers are currently prohibited under Louisiana Revised Statute 32:327 from driving through the work zone (from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive) due to narrow lane widths. As construction progresses and the new travel lanes are built, this prohibition will be assessed for its necessity. CMV drivers should utilize the primary detour of I-220.
Additionally, through travelers on I-20 are urged to utilize I-220 to avoid construction delays.
