The Benton Tigers, Airline Vikings and Parkwa Panthers completed District 1-5A sweeps with victories Tuesday.
Benton edged Haughton 4-3 in eight innings at Haughton, Airline rolled past Byrd 9-1 at Byrd’s LSUS field and Parkway routed Evangel Christian 14-2 at Evangel.
Benton (22-1, 8-0) leads the district. Natchitoches Central (17-6, 8-2), Airline (14-6, 8-2) and Haughton (17-5, 6-2) are tied for second in the loss column.
At Haughton, the game went into extra innings tied at 3.
Benton’s Griffin Sibley singled with one out in the top of the eighth. Colton Birdsong drew a walk. Brody Turnipseed then brought home courtesy runner Kannon Greer with a single. The Bucs ended the inning with a double play on a popout.
Thomas Allen, who went the distance, then struck out the side in the bottom of the inning.
Benton scored two runs in the top of the first. Hayden Millen walked and reached third on an error. Two runs scored on an error on a hard ground ball by Jackson Jones.
Haughton answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Christian Turner walked with one out and scored on a line drive by Seth Jorstad.
With a runner at third, Allen induced a flyout and got a strikeout.
The Tigers went up 3-1 in the third. Kade Bryant and Jones led off with back-to-back singles. Bryant scored on a sacrifice fly by Birdsong.
The Bucs cut the lead to one in the fourth. Turner tripled with one out and scored on a single by Jorstad.
Haughton tied it in the fifth on a Turner home run with two outs.
The Bucs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Seth Breen singled with one out and Turner was intentionally walked. Justin Adkison, running for Breen, advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a flyout, JP Cormier was intentionally walked. But shortstop Case Jorden caught a line drive to end the threat.
Allen scattered six hits, struck out 11 and walked three. Sibley went 3-for-4. Jorden went 2-for-3.
Haughton started Seth Jorstad went 7 1/3 innings. He gave up only one earned run, struck out three and walked three. He also went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Turner went 2-for-2 and drew two walks.
Benton is scheduled to start a two-game series against Evangel Christian Thursday at Evangel at 6. Haughton hosts Doyline Wednesday at 5 then starts a two-game series against Captain Shreve Thursday at 6 at Shreve.
At LSUS, Ayden Hawn pitched a complete game. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.
The Vikings led 3-1 after three then put six on the board in the top of the fourth.
Brock Jordan, Hawn, Jack Henry Smith and Bo Carter all singled in the fourth. Marshall Beaver’s sacrifice fly scored the final run.
Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jordan also went 3-for-4 with a double. Crew Chandler went 2-for-4. Austin Smith had a two-RBI double in the top of the first.
Airline visits Zwolle Thursday at 5. Byrd dropped to 9-16 and 4-6.
At Evangel, Parkway scored three in the second and 11 in the third in the five-inning game,
Maddox Cockerham hit a three-run home run in the fourth to make it 12-2. He also had a single earlier in the inning. Trent Howard had two singles.
Abel Thetford drove in two runs with a double. Colby Donaldson and Dallas Loche had singles. Four Panthers were hit by pitches. Gabe Armond scored a run with a sacrifice fly.
Cockerham went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game. Thetford went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Loche went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI. Howard went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Zach Plunkett went four innings for the win. He allowed four hits and struck out four with no walks. Ryan Waits struck out two in the fifth.
Parkway (7-12, 2-6), which has won three in a row, is scheduled to start a two-game series against Huntington Thursday at 6 at home.
In a District 1-4A game Monday, Bossier defeated Woodlawn 15-0 in three innings at Rusheon. Conner Tugwell pitched a perfect game with eight strikeouts.
Bossier (6-3, 3-0) hosts Woodlawn again Friday at 6.
