Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) held its third Power Line Worker
Rodeo on May 15, 2025, at the Shreveport campus. The event celebrated the accomplishments
of the graduating class by showcasing their technical skills and training in front of friends,
family, and industry professionals.

During the rodeo, students demonstrated a bell change out, switch change out, pin change out,
and the crowd-favorite Hurt Man Rescue race. Each exercise tested the students’ speed,
accuracy, and safety—qualities that are critical in the power line industry.

This year’s graduating class includes Bryson Baker, Landon Coburn, Koby Copeland, Josh
Flowers, Clayton Goodwin, Nathan Peoples, David Weaver, and Grayson Williams.

Led by instructor and AEP SWEPCO alumnus James Barlow, NLTCC’s Power Line Worker
Program offers students hands-on training and the opportunity to earn industry-recognized
credentials such as a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), CPR certification, and more.
The program prepares students for success in a physically demanding and essential field.

The next Power Line Worker class begins in August 2025. To apply, students must be 18 years
old, hold a valid driver’s license, complete a DOT physical, have a high school diploma or
equivalent, and be comfortable working at high elevations. A DOT drug screen is also required,
with associated costs covered by the student. For more information, visit nltcc.edu or call 318-
676-7811 to speak to a member of the student services team.

NLTCC remains the only provider of line worker training in Northwest Louisiana, offering a
unique and rewarding pathway into the utilities industry.
