The LSU Tigers open the best-of-three Baton Rouge Super Regional against West Virginia Saturday at 1 p.m. at Skip Bertman Field, Alex Box Stadium.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 5 (ESPN2). Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for Monday.
LSU is looking for its 10th Super Regional title. The last came in 2023. The Tigers went on to win the College World Series.
LSU (46-15), the No. 6 overall seed, won the Baton Rouge Regional, defeating Little Rock 10-6 in a winner-take-all game on Monday.
West Virginia (44-14) won the Clemson Regional. The Mountaineers went 3-0, defeating Kentucky 4-3 and 13-12 and overall No. 11 Clemson 9-6.
Saturday’s game will be the first ever between the Tigers and Mountaineers.
West Virginia won the Big 12 regular-season title with a 19-9 mark.
Utility player Sam White leads the team in batting average at .352. He has 16 doubles, four home runs and 44 RBI. Outfielder Kyle West is batting .347 with 15 doubles, 10 home runs and 36 RBI.
Left-hander Griffin Kern leads the pitching staff. He is 5-2 with a 3.13 ERA and has 100 strikeouts in 95 innings.
Right-hander Jack Kartsonas is 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA. He has 76 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings.
The Mountaineers are batting .299 as a team.
Junior designated hitter Ethan Frey leads LSU in batting average at .359. He has 13 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 49 RBI.
Junior first baseman Jared Jones, who is batting .323, leads the team in home runs with 20 and RBI with 69.
Freshman leftfielder Derek Curriel is second in batting average at 341 and first in doubles with 12.
Senior catcher Luis Hernandez batted .533 (8-for-15) in the regional.
Junior right-hander Anthony Ayanson and sophomore left-hander Kade Anderson lead the pitching staff.
Ayanson is 10-2 with a 2.50 ERA. He has 135 strikeouts in 93 2/3 innings.
Anderson is 9-1 with a 3.28 ERA. He has 156 strikeouts in 96 innings.
Cason Evans and Zac Cowan have six saves each.
