When his team fell quickly behind North Caddo 12-0 in the season opener Friday night at Memorial Stadium, Bossier Head Coach Gary Smith wasn’t quite sure how his team would react.
After all, the Bearkats haven’t had a lot of success recently.
But Smith’s Bearkats reacted like he hoped they would. Bossier dominated the rest Of the game en route to a 63-25 victory.
“That was a positive tonight,” he said. “We got down. The body language was great. It was good to see. It was good for us. It was good for the kids.”
Both of the Titans’ early touchdowns came after turnovers. The Bearkats didn’t turn the ball over again and had four takeaways of their own.
“I think the biggest key was winning the turnover battle,” Smith said. “That’s what I kind of told them all week. Whoever has the most turnovers is going to lose.
“They accepted that challenge pretty well and went out and got that goal. I think that was a big part of it.”
Bossier scored 42 unanswered points for a 42-12 halftime lead.
“We fought back pretty quick,” Smith said. “We didn’t turn the ball over again and ended up getting four of theirs and that kind of gave us the momentum. We kind of kept our foot on the gas after we got that momentum.”
While all the Bearkats contributed to the victory, sophomore Montrevell Lewis scored five touchdowns and freshman Demareya Bates had four.
Bossier visits Glenbrook Friday. The Apaches routed Magnolia School of Excellence 62-6 in their opener.
